Made this recipie for my advisees at school because one of them can’t eat dairy. I’ve always been a butter in brownies cook, but I’m defintely a convert. These are super yummy. SO good. I’ve made them twice. The first time, I took them out at 30 minutes and they were almost pudding in the middle (and you can’t check easily because of the lovely crust on top). So the second go round, I left them in just a little bit longer and then let them cool overnight. Perfection.

So glad you figured out an adjustment and love them! Some ovens work differently and climate can also effect baking! Adjustments are key to accurate baking!

I first started making the Crisco Brownie recipe in the very late 60s. My question is, when did the Crisco recipe start saying to melt the shortening? The original recipe didn’t melt the shortening. My 4-H leader gave all us girls the recipes. I think I made them weekly. Weird though, that everywhere I look, the shortening is melted. My mom misplaced the recipe about 10 yrs ago. I’ve been looking for the original recipe since then. It’s either melted butter or melted Crisco. Someone, somewhere has the actual original Crisco Brownie recipe.

in the recipe it calls for a lot of eggs, eggs that i can’t afford to use for a treat like brownies but also eggs make brownies more like cake and less fudgy, is there a reason for so many? if so you should add that to the instructions or tips. I only used two so I’m hoping when they come out they’ll still be delicious 😋

Yes, it is a lot of eggs! However, the recipe is for 9×13 pan (not an 8″ square as a lot of recipes are) so the eggs are used to bind the dry ingredients. They also add more fat to the brownies resulting in a richer brownie. You could also substitute for plain yogurt, applesauce, flaxseed and water or mashed banana! How did they turn out with using only 2 eggs?

These brownies look so good. I’ve never tried them with crisco before though. I look forward to trying them this way. Brownies are a favorite of mine.
